Arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Atlanta is the world's busiest airport by passenger volume, and Delta's primary fortress hub. The layout is linear: a main domestic terminal connects to Concourses A through F via the Plane Train, an underground automated people mover. Walking between concourses is possible but slow. Concourse A to F on foot takes 20+ minutes.
International arrivals come through Concourse F, which opened in 2012 specifically for overseas flights. CBP queues here can run 45 minutes or longer during peak periods, particularly when multiple transatlantic and Latin American flights land within the same window. Global Entry and Mobile Passport make a real difference at ATL.
Domestic connections are straightforward thanks to the Plane Train. Most Delta passengers will arrive at Concourses A through E. From touchdown to the curb on a domestic flight is 15-25 minutes if you're not checking bags.
For pickups, the cell phone lot sits off I-85 and is free. The domestic terminal has two sides, North and South, and your driver needs to know which one. International arrivals exit on the south side near Concourse F. Rideshare pickup is on the top level of the domestic terminal parking deck.
Atlanta is a connection point for much of the southeastern US. If someone is flying internationally through ATL, they'll clear customs here even if they have a domestic connecting flight onward.
