About

Arriving at Barcelona-El Prat Airport

Barcelona-El Prat has two terminals that are not connected airside. Terminal 1 is the newer, larger building and handles most major carriers including British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, and other full-service airlines. Terminal 2 (split into 2A, 2B, and 2C) handles some low-cost and regional operators including Ryanair.

Immigration is quick for EU/EEA passport holders using e-gates. Non-EU arrivals go through manual passport control which takes longer but rarely exceeds 20 minutes. From landing to the arrivals hall is 20-30 minutes in most cases.

The Aerobus is the most popular way into central Barcelona. It runs every 5 minutes to Placa Catalunya and takes about 35 minutes. T1 and T2 have separate Aerobus stops, so make sure you board the right one. The metro L9 Sud line also connects the airport to the city, though it takes longer and requires a transfer for most destinations.

UK to Barcelona is 2-2.5 hours. Flights run throughout the day from multiple UK airports. Short flight times mean your tracking window is brief. Someone texting "just boarded" will be landing before you know it.

For pickups, both terminals have short-stay car parks adjacent to arrivals. The airport is 12km southwest of the city centre. Taxi to central Barcelona takes 20-30 minutes and costs around 40 euros with airport surcharge.

Pickup tip
